Egress Maps

Egress Maps That Show New Jersey Buildings the Fastest Way Out

Evacuation maps, fire plans and elevator fire signs drawn for the exact spot where each one hangs. We turn your floor plans into clear maps, make them in Linden and install them across New Jersey offices, apartments, hotels, schools and medical buildings. We also install in the five boroughs; see our NYC service area.

Why It Matters

The Sign Nobody Reads Until It Matters

On a normal day an egress map is wall art. In an alarm, it is the one sign people need to understand in seconds, often in a building they do not know.

A good map strips the floor plan down to what matters: where you are standing, where the exits and stairs are, and the route between them. Everything else is noise.

Because the map has to match the spot where it hangs, a building usually needs several versions of the same floor. We plan every posting location so each map shows the right view.

Where am I?A clear you are here marker.
Where do I go?Routes to the nearest exits.
What is nearby?Extinguishers, alarms and stairs.
What do I do?Short instructions for an alarm.
Map Content

What Goes on an Egress Map

The exact content depends on your building and what your fire official or safety team requires. Most maps share the same core.

  • You are here: a marker at the exact spot where the map hangs.
  • Exits and stairs: every exit door and exit stair on the floor.
  • Routes: arrows from the marker to the nearest exits.
  • Safety equipment: extinguishers, pull stations and AEDs where required.
  • Legend and instructions: what the symbols mean and what to do in an alarm.

Maps are drawn from the floor plans and route information your team supplies. Requirements vary by building and town, so your fire official has the final word.

FAQs

Egress Map Questions

What New Jersey property and facility managers ask before ordering egress maps.

What is an egress map?

An egress map is a simplified floor plan posted on the wall that shows where you are, where the exits and stairs are and the route to get out.

Does every map in a building need to be different?

Usually, yes. Each map should show a you are here marker for the spot where it hangs, so maps on the same floor often have different versions.

What do you need to make our egress maps?

Current floor plans, the places where maps will hang, and the approved exits, routes and safety equipment from your team.

Who decides what has to be on the map?

Requirements vary by building type and town. Your fire official, code consultant or safety team decides the required content. We draw it clearly and make the signs.

Can you match our existing maps?

Yes. Send photos of the current maps and we will match the size, colors and layout, or update the whole set to one style.

Do you make photoluminescent maps?

Yes, where they are specified. Photoluminescent material glows in low light after it has been charged by normal lighting.

How much do egress maps cost?

It depends on how many maps you need, how many versions, the material and the install. Send your floor plans and a count of locations and we will price the set.

Do you install egress maps in New York City?

Yes, in all five boroughs. See our NYC service area.
