Custom Channel Letters in New Jersey, Built In House

Custom Channel Letter Signs for Storefronts and Commercial Buildings

Channel letters are individual dimensional letters or logo elements fabricated as separate sign bodies. Aluminum is commonly used for the backs and returns, while illuminated face-lit letters typically use translucent acrylic faces with internal LED lighting. Halo-lit constructions allow light to wash onto the mounting surface behind the letters.

Gogi Signs handles channel letter projects from site measurements and drawings through fabrication, permitting support, electrical coordination, and installation. The finished construction depends on the logo, letter size, stroke width, lighting method, facade, mounting surface, local requirements, and viewing distance.

— Channel Letter Types

Front-Lit, Halo-Lit, Combination-Lit, and Open-Face Channel Letters

The lighting direction changes the entire look of the sign. These are the core channel letter constructions used for storefront and commercial building signage.

front lit channel letter for store

Front-Lit Channel Letters

Light passes through the face of each letter or logo element. This is the classic illuminated storefront format for strong nighttime readability and brand color.

Standard heights 8″–48″ · Common depths 3″–10″
halo lit channel letters

Back-Lit / Halo-Lit Channel Letters

Light projects behind the letters and reflects off the wall, creating a halo around the letter shape. The mounting surface becomes part of the lighting effect.

Standard heights 8″–48″ · Common depths 3″–10″
combination lit channel letters

Combination-Lit Channel Letters

Front illumination and rear halo lighting are used together when the sign needs a bright face plus a second layer of light around the letters.

Final construction depends on logo geometry, depth, wall surface, and lighting plan
open face channel letters

Open-Face Channel Letters

An open-face construction leaves the illumination visible from the front rather than covering it with a standard acrylic face, creating a different sign character for selected storefront concepts.

Channel Letter Materials, Faces, Returns, and LED Lighting

The visible face is only one part of the sign. The return depth, back, LEDs, face material, trim or face-retention method, wiring, and mounting all need to work together as one fabricated assembly.

— Mounting Methods

Direct-Mount vs Raceway-Mounted Channel Letters

The mounting method changes the appearance of the storefront and the amount of work required at the facade. The building, landlord criteria, electrical access, sign permit, and desired finished look all affect the choice.

direct mounted channel letters

Direct-Mounted Channel Letters

Each letter or logo element is mounted individually to the building surface. This can create a cleaner facade with no visible raceway behind the sign, but it requires the site and wall construction to support the mounting and wiring plan.

Often selected when individual mounting is permitted and the facade can support the required penetrations, wiring, and access.

Raceway-Mounted Channel Letters

The letters mount to a fabricated raceway that carries wiring and electrical components, while the raceway mounts to the building. It can reduce the number of wall penetrations and may make future access or service easier on some properties.

Often useful where landlord standards, wall construction, wiring access, or installation conditions favor a single mounting structure.

— Size, Depth & Site Conditions

Channel Letter Sizes, Depths, and Storefront Requirements

The current Gogi channel letter range includes standard letter heights from 8″ to 48″ and common can depths of 3″, 4″, 5″, 6″, 8″, and 10″. Those ranges are useful starting points, but the final construction still depends on the letterform, stroke width, lighting, logo geometry, facade, and local sign requirements.

A detailed storefront logo may need different fabrication choices than a wide block-letter name. The site survey and approved shop drawing should settle the final dimensions before production.
