Which Process Suits Which Material

The material usually decides the machine before the shape does. This is how the common sign materials split between our CNC router and laser.

Acrylic Laser for fine detail and flame polished edges, CNC for thick sheet and large parts. See acrylic cutting.

Wood and MDF CNC for letters, pockets and deep profiles. Laser for thin wood and engraved detail.

Expanded PVC CNC routing. It cuts cleanly and holds sharp corners on letters and panels.

Aluminum Composite CNC routing, including the V grooves that let a panel fold into a tray.

HDU CNC routing and carving for dimensional signs and raised letters.

What to Send for a Cutting Quote

Clean files get the fastest and most accurate price. If you do not have one, a dimensioned drawing or a sketch is still enough to start.

Vector Files DXF, DWG, AI, EPS or vector PDF with the cut lines on their own layer.

Dimensions Overall size, material thickness and any holes or pockets with their positions.

Material What it should be cut from, or what the part needs to do so we can suggest one.

Quantity and Finish How many, and whether edges need polishing, painting or assembly.

Cutting Service Questions

Do you cut parts that are not signs?

Yes. We cut panels, templates, display parts, inserts and components for fabricators, designers and businesses, not only signs.

What is the difference between CNC and laser cutting?

CNC routing uses a spinning bit and suits thick material, pockets and deep profiles. Laser cutting uses a beam and suits fine detail, thin sheet and engraving.

What file format do you need?

A vector file such as DXF, DWG, AI, EPS or PDF is best. A dimensioned drawing or sketch works for a first quote.

Can you cut one piece or only large runs?

Both. We cut single prototypes and repeat production runs.
