Two very different buildings account for much of the sign work in the city, and Gogi Signs works on both. A twenty-two-foot bakery frontage on Elizabeth Avenue calls for a very different sign than a four-hundred-foot distribution building near the turnpike.
For retail, the challenge is fitting a readable name, logo and street number into a narrow storefront band while staying within Elizabeth’s rules for sign width, letter height and permitted materials. Channel letters, carved work, neon and dimensional signs all have their place.
Industrial properties work differently. Signs are sized to long building faces and installed from lifts, often alongside dock numbers, door identification, site signs and graphics for the trucks and trailers on site.
Both types of work come from the same shop, with surveying, drawings, fabrication, installation and future repairs handled by the same team.

Sign Design
Letter weight, spacing, contrast and finish are matched to the actual frontage. Narrow storefronts often need heavier letters and tighter wording, not a smaller sign.
Sign Fabrication

Elizabeth does not give a storefront sign a square footage allowance. It sets dimensions instead, measured off your own shopfront, and those four numbers decide the design before anything is drawn.
One sign per facade, with a second allowed on a corner store facing the other street. Awnings clear eight feet, carry lettering up to sixteen inches, and run to sixty percent of the store width. Painted, gilded and etched lettering on the display window is held to a quarter of the glass. Warehouses and distribution buildings work off a different measure again — a share of the building face length rather than a store width — with nothing permitted on the roof.
Two overlays can change the requirements. Midtown has stricter rules on lighting, windows and sign placement, while marine terminal tenants follow the Port Authority’s process. We confirm the applicable rules before quoting.
A permanent commercial sign generally needs a zoning permit and a construction permit, and the application asks for a rendering of the sign on the building plus photographs of your storefront and the two on either side. Those photographs and drawings are part of what we produce.
The application is filed by you or your landlord. We assist with permits; we do not file them on your behalf. The permit is issued to you by the City of Elizabeth, and no sign company can promise you an approval.

Up to eighty percent of your store width, not the whole building, and up to twenty-four inches tall in the sign box or in the letters themselves. The top of the sign stays within fourteen feet of the ground, and it projects no more than twelve inches unless it sits on an awning. Those four numbers set the design, so we take them off your frontage before drawing anything.
Weight and contrast do more than size. A shorter name in a heavier letter at full height beats a long name shrunk to fit, and a light face on a dark ground reads further at night than the reverse. Dropping the tagline and keeping the name, logo and street number is usually what makes a twenty-foot frontage work.
It costs less than most owners expect and it does something no printed vinyl does: real leaf shifts as the light moves, so the window looks different at nine in the morning and at dusk. It suits bakeries, barbers, law offices and restaurants, and a properly laid gilded window lasts decades rather than the few years you get from film.

Yes, and a good share of the work is exactly that. Failed LEDs and transformers, water in a cabinet, storm and impact damage and faded faces are routine whoever built the original. When the cabinet is sound and only the tenant has changed, a new face costs a fraction of a rebuild.
Usually, and it is the cheapest good answer in signage. We check the cabinet, the retainers and the wiring first, because a face going into a cabinet with water in it fails twice. If the housing is sound, a printed or routed replacement face goes in without touching the structure or the power.
