— Sign Company in Paterson
Gogi Signs designs, makes and fits signs for the independent businesses that fill Paterson’s commercial streets. One company handles the drawing, the fabrication, the paperwork and the installation, which on a narrow shopfront matters more than it sounds.
The width is the constraint here. Most Paterson frontages run twenty to thirty feet and share a wall on both sides, so a sign competes at reading distance rather than at forty miles an hour. Letter weight, contrast and finish carry it, and the design question is fitting a legible name into the space without borrowing the neighbor’s facade.
Language is the second one. South Paterson trades in Arabic and Turkish, Market Street and Park Avenue in Spanish, Union Avenue in Bengali. Setting a second script is a layout job rather than a translation job — a right-to-left script needs the whole layout mirrored and the letterforms weighted to sit beside the English, not under it.
Downtown adds a third. Inside the Commercial Historic District an internally lit box will not pass, and painted, gilded and dimensional lettering is what reviews cleanly — work we do rather than send out.

Sign Design

Division of Community Improvements
Issues the zoning sign permit. Applications go in triplicate, and to the Division of Historic Preservation as well where the address calls for it.
Construction Official
Issues the construction permit, which the code requires before the Public Works license can be granted.
Director of Public Works
Issues the annual license for a sign projecting eighteen inches or more beyond the building line.
Roof signs and anything above the cornice or parapet are prohibited, along with billboards, moving or flashing signs, and exposed neon or incandescent bulbs (§ 500-8.3). Sign area comes from a schedule the Division of Planning and Zoning holds rather than a published figure, so we obtain it for your district before quoting.
The Downtown Commercial Historic District — forty-one acres and around 210 contributing buildings across Main, Market, Ellison, Van Houten and Broadway — carries Historic Preservation Commission review, and its guidelines rule out internally illuminated box signs. Channel and routed letters, painted and gilded work pass there. An address inside an adopted redevelopment area follows that plan instead.
The application is filed by you or your landlord. We assist with permits; we do not file them on your behalf. The permit is issued to you by the City of Paterson, and no sign company can promise you an approval.
