Marlboro, New Jersey
Gogi Signs designs, builds and installs business signs for Marlboro, from storefront letters on Route 9 to suite signs for medical and professional offices. We fabricate in our Linden shop, prepare the permit drawings for the township and send our own crew to install.
Office and practice signs
Building signs that patients and clients can find from the parking lot.
Route 9 Frontage
Marlboro only allows a freestanding sign on a lot with at least 200 feet of street frontage and an acre of land, and a building shared by several businesses gets just one. For most tenants in a Route 9 strip center or a converted office building, that leaves the wall sign as the sign customers actually see.
The township allows wall signs up to 10% of each side of the building that faces a public street, projecting no more than 12 inches. A 60 foot wide, 18 foot tall front wall works out to about 108 square feet across every sign on that wall, which is enough for well spaced channel letters or a slim light box. We measure the real wall during the survey before any layout is drawn.
Township Code
If your lot qualifies for a freestanding sign, the frontage decides how tall and how large it can be. These are the steps in the township code, measured with the posts and frame included. One scope note. We do not offer pylon or monument signs. Larger Route 9 properties are made identifiable with wall mounted building signs, channel letters, dimensional lettering, entrance graphics, directional signs and window graphics instead.
Plan Around It
Marlboro prohibits signs on awnings, so an awning here is a canopy, not the sign. Put the name on the wall above it or on the glass.
Within 100 feet of a traffic light, lit signs may not use those colors. We check the nearest signal before choosing LED colors.
A freestanding sign must stay back from the lot line by 10 feet or its own height, whichever is greater, so a taller sign moves further in.
What We Make

Lit or non lit letters sized to the 10% wall allowance.

Reception walls, suite numbers and directories for office buildings.

Hours, services and branding cut in vinyl for the glass.
Why Gogi Signs
Gogi Signs has made signs in Linden since 2005. For Marlboro projects we survey the site for free, check the zone and the lease criteria, prepare the drawings for the Construction Official, and install with our licensed and insured crew. Ask about our sign permit service if you already have a design.
NJ & NYC Service Area
Marlboro is in Monmouth County. These are the rules from Marlboro's own sign ordinance that most often shape what a business can put up.
Source: Township of Marlboro Code, Chapter 220, § 220-99.
No part of any sign may sit closer to a lot line than 10 feet or the height of the sign, whichever is greater.
§ 220-99B(2)Sign area includes every part of the sign, including moldings, frames, posts and pylons. Irregular faces are measured as the smallest four-sided shape around them. A double-faced sign counts one side.
§ 220-99B(3)-(5)Each office, commercial or industrial use may have one or more wall signs not exceeding 10% of the area of each side of the building that fronts a public street. Wall signs may not extend more than 12 inches from the building face.
§ 220-99D(9), B(9)A freestanding sign requires at least 200 feet of street frontage and a one-acre lot, and only one is allowed where several uses share a building. Limits step up with frontage: 200-299 ft allows 15 ft high and 60 sq ft, 300-399 ft allows 20 ft and 100 sq ft, and 400 ft or more allows 25 ft and 140 sq ft.
§ 220-99D(10)Beyond 400 feet of frontage, one additional freestanding sign is allowed at one square foot per linear foot over 400, with both signs together capped at 280 square feet.
§ 220-99D(11)Roof signs, signs on awnings, trees, fences and poles, moving or flashing signs, and red, green or yellow lights within 100 feet of a traffic signal are all prohibited.
§ 220-99CBillboards are a conditional use only in the C-3, C-4 and C-5 zones on lots fronting State Highway 9, up to 675 square feet and 45 feet high, with no LED or video faces.
§ 220-99B(14)Event signs may go up 45 days ahead and must come down within 7 days. A contractor may place one sign of up to 6 square feet for the duration of the job.
§ 220-99EViolations carry a fine of $100 to $1,250, and each day a violation continues after notice is a separate offense.
§ 220-99HA permit from the Construction Official is required for any sign other than nameplate, identification, temporary, sale or rental signs.
§ 220-99B(10)Ordinances are amended from time to time, and zone, overlay and lease requirements all apply on top of the figures above. We confirm the current requirements with Marlboro for your specific property during the site survey, before anything is designed.

Each office, commercial or industrial use may have one or more wall signs not exceeding 10% of the area of each side of the building that fronts a public street. Wall signs may not extend more than 12 inches from the building face. (§ 220-99D(9), B(9).) The exact allowance depends on the zone and the building, which we confirm during the site survey.
A permit from the Construction Official is required for any sign other than nameplate, identification, temporary, sale or rental signs. (§ 220-99B(10).) We prepare the drawings and details the application asks for, and help you or your landlord file it.
Yes. We design, fabricate, permit and install from our own shop in Linden rather than brokering the work out, so one company stays accountable from the survey through to the final inspection.
Fabrication time depends on the sign, but the variable that usually moves the date most is municipal approval. A flat panel or vinyl job can move quickly, but an illuminated sign that needs permits and an electrical inspection takes longer. We give a schedule after the survey, once we know which approvals apply.
Storefront and building signage, channel letters, illuminated cabinets, interior and ADA signage, wayfinding, window and wall graphics, and vehicle graphics. If you are not sure which suits the site, the survey usually settles it.
