Storefront and Building Signs for Edison

Almost every sign Gogi Signs makes for Edison is read from a moving car. Route 1, Route 27, Amboy Avenue, and roads around Raritan Center put distance between drivers and buildings. The building sign has to read from the road, not just from the sidewalk.

At 40 mph, a sign gets roughly two seconds of attention. That makes letter height, stroke weight, contrast, and simple messaging more important than fitting in extra words.

Edison also has different sign allowances for wall and freestanding signs. Wall signs use the larger of two measurements, while freestanding signs are tied to frontage and the smaller measurement.

One scope note. We do not offer pylon or monument signs. Larger Edison properties are made identifiable with wall mounted building signs, channel letters, dimensional lettering, entrance graphics, directional signs and window graphics instead.

Raritan Center and nearby industrial parks have different needs: building identification, dock and door numbers, tenant directories, and signs that can be updated as businesses change. Installation often requires lifts and scheduling around operating hours.

Gogi Signs handles the survey, design, fabrication, installation, and future reface through one sign company and one contract.

Our Services

Sign Services in Edison Township

Measured, drawn, built, craned into place and looked after afterwards by one company.

Sign Design

Copy, letter height and contrast set against the distance and the speed the sign is read from. Proofs come back at true scale on a photograph taken from the road, not from the sidewalk in front of the building.

Sign Fabrication

Aluminum cabinets, routed and push-through faces, channel letters and flat panel work. Cabinets are built with removable retainers, so a face can be changed later without a crane.

Sign Installation

Experienced installers, licensed and insured, with lift and crane work for high walls. Mounting, wind loading and the power run are settled at the drawing stage, not discovered on the day.

Site Survey & Measurement

We measure the street frontage and the building face, check the sight lines from both approaches and photograph the site. Those numbers drive everything after.

Tenant Panel Changeovers

New tenant signs and directory panels when a lease turns over. They are matched to the existing cabinet, retainers and lighting, so one panel changes and the rest stays untouched.

Sign Repair & Maintenance

Failed LEDs and ballasts, water in a cabinet, cracked faces, storm and vehicle damage, and the yearly check most owners never book until something goes dark on a Friday.

Why Gogi Signs

How Gogi Signs Handles an Edison Job

Property managers and shopping center owners keep coming back to Gogi Signs for unglamorous reasons: the survey numbers are right, the mounting is worked out before it is quoted, and the panel that arrives four years later still matches the six beside it.

Twenty years of it has also made us a wholesale supplier to other sign companies, who buy from us and inspect the weld, the paint and the wiring before their own client ever sees the job.

Our Products

Signs We Build for Edison Businesses

What a highway frontage, a strip center and an industrial park each order most.

Lit light box sign for The Kooples tested on the Gogi Signs shop floor before delivery

Illuminated Cabinets & Light Boxes

Aluminum cabinets with printed or routed acrylic faces, lit evenly by LED rather than blotchily by whatever was in the last one. Single or double sided, and built so one face swaps without touching the frame.

custom channel letter signage with led lighting

Channel Letters & Halo Lettering

Each letter fabricated as its own can. Front-lit letters carry farthest across a parking lot. Reverse-lit halo letters look more expensive and suit an office or medical frontage.

commercial storefront signage

Storefront & Fascia Signs

Flat and routed panels in aluminum, Dibond or acrylic, or letters fixed straight to the fascia. In a strip center this is the sign that tells drivers in the lot which door is yours.

custom directory signage

Directories & Suite Boards

Site directories, suite boards and tenant signs for multi-tenant buildings. Made to the sizes already on your directory, so a single tenant changes without reworking the whole sign.

building-identification-signage

Building & Industrial Identification

Large-format letters and wall panels legible from an approach road, plus dock and door numbering, yard directionals and entrance identification for warehouses and research buildings.

Depot yard filled with white vans and pickups all lettered in matching Pinecrest Property Services livery

Fleet Graphics & Truck Lettering

Cut lettering, partial wraps and full wraps in cast vinyl film, fitted by our own installers. For a trade or a carrier working out of Edison, the fleet covers more road in a week than any fixed sign.

Sizes & Permits

Edison Sign Sizes and Zoning Permits

Edison runs two allowances that pull in opposite directions, and knowing which one applies changes the sign you can build. The wall sign takes whichever measurement is larger. The freestanding sign takes whichever is smaller.

Whichever is greater

Wall sign

Measured off the front building wall, and the more generous of the two tests wins.

Worked on a 60 ft wall, 18 ft high

1.5 sq ft per foot of wall width 90 sq ft
10% of the front wall area 108 sq ft
You may use 108 sq ft

§ 37 to 62.10a · 150 sq ft cap per sign, 18 in projection, nothing above the roofline

Whichever is lesser

Freestanding sign

Tied to street frontage, and the tighter of the two tests wins.

Worked on 200 ft of street frontage

Standard maximum per face 75 sq ft
1 sq ft per 5 ft of frontage 40 sq ft
You may use 40 sq ft

§ 37 to 62.10b · 20 ft high or building height, 15 ft setback, one per 300 ft of frontage

The frontage test only stops biting above 375 feet, so most single-tenant sites on Route 1 and Route 27 land well under the headline seventy-five square feet. Shopping centers are treated separately and far more generously: one sign per main driveway entrance, up to 250 square feet and 25 feet high, again capped by the same frontage ratio.

Industrial and research addresses invert the usual pattern. A freestanding sign in the light industrial and research zones may carry a much larger face than a commercial one but must sit lower to the ground, and attached signs follow the commercial rule. Roof signs are prohibited township-wide, as are off-premises signs outside the narrow billboard provisions added in 2024, which apply only in the light industrial zone.

A zoning permit comes first, and Edison’s own sign information sheet asks for the survey, elevations with area calculations, the setback to the nearest property line, the height of the principal building and the method of illumination. A construction permit follows, with an electrical component for anything lit. Producing those drawings and calculations is our part of it.

The application is filed by you or your landlord. We help with drawings and paperwork, but we do not file permits for you. The permit is issued to you by the Township of Edison, and no sign company can promise you an approval.

Get Numbers for Your Edison Sign

Send the address and the street frontage in feet and a real figure comes back rather than a range.

For a wall sign, the width and height of the building front is enough. For a tenant sign change, a photograph of what is there now saves a site visit.

FAQs

Questions We Get From Edison

Because the two rules run opposite tests. The wall sign takes the larger of one and a half square feet per foot of building width or ten percent of the front wall area. The freestanding sign takes the smaller of seventy-five square feet or a frontage ratio. A deep site with a wide building and a narrow road frontage ends up with a generous wall sign and a modest freestanding sign.

A rough working rule is an inch of letter height for every ten feet of viewing distance, and more where traffic is fast or the background is busy. At two hundred feet that is twenty-inch letters as a floor, not a ceiling. Contrast matters as much as size, and cutting the copy back to a name and a category usually buys more legibility than making the sign bigger.

Yes, and it is much the cheapest route. We measure the existing panel, match the material, thickness and retainer detail, and print or route the replacement to the same sizes so it sits in the board without adjustment. Where we hold the original artwork, the new panel matches the neighbors instead of standing out.

Yes. Failed LEDs and ballasts, water sitting in a cabinet, cracked or yellowed faces, storm and vehicle damage. Where the cabinet is sound, a reface and a relamp cost a fraction of a replacement.

Large-format letters or a wall panel sized so it reads from the approach road rather than the loading apron, plus dock and door numbering, yard directionals and entrance identification. Installation is lift or crane work, scheduled around your shifts.
A zoning permit comes first and a construction permit follows, with an electrical component for anything illuminated. The township wants the survey, elevations with area calculations, setbacks, building height and the method of illumination, and we produce all of that. The application is filed by you or your landlord. We help with drawings and paperwork, but we do not file permits for you. No sign company can promise you an approval.
A set of lit channel letters is a different order of job from a flat fascia panel, so the honest answer needs the address and the frontage. Design and proofing are quick, fabrication depends on the sign, and the permits run to the township’s timetable rather than ours. Send the details and a real figure and date come back.
